Torre de Belém/ Belém Tower ★

This tower was constructed during the reign of King Manuel I, and it took around 5 years, being finished in 1520. It was constructed to defend the entrance of Tejo River. It is composed by a tower and a bulwark (with cannons for defence), where the Manueline art is very strong. The view from the last floor is incredible, showing all the river and part of the city.

Mosteiro dos Jerónimos/ Jerónimos Monastery ★

The monastery was built almost 520 years ago to commemorate all the naval achievements of Vasco da Gama, whose tomb was placed by the entrance (as well as the poet Luis de Camões' tomb and many more Portuguese figures' tombs). It is constructed in the magnificent Manueline style, and it was King Manuel I who had the monastery built. It has a small but beautiful garden in front of it.

Castelo de São Jorge/ Saint Jorge's Castle ★ 

Apart from being an historic place in Lisbon it is actually one of the most visited places by tourists. It offers not only an exceptional view, but it also presents eleven towers and architectural elements characteristic of military fortifications from the Arab period.

Padrão dos Descobrimentos/ Monument to the Discoveries

It was designed in 1940, but only constructed in 1960 to the 'Exposition of the Portuguese World', to celebrate the double century of the foundation and restoration of the nation. The monument symbolizes a caravel guided by Infant D. Henrique, with 32 historical characters that contributed to the Discoveries and first explorations. Inside it, there is an exposition available and a movie about the story behind this monument. It has an exceptional viewpoint on the roof of the river and part of the city. It is located near the Tejo River, and it is one of the most beautiful places to walk around in Lisbon.

Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB)/ Belém Cultural Center

Located on one of the most iconic neighbourhoods of this city, CCB it is a cultural and emblematic space. This center contains different areas inside, with the objective of spearing culture, such as temporary expositions' spaces, museums, show rooms, even an area especially dedicated for kids (with activities and animations). On the terrace, there is a restaurant with an amazing view of the river and part of Belém. To know what it is offering at each time, check the website.

Basílica da Estrela/ Estrela Basilica

This basilica is in the center of the neighbourhood, and it is also known as Basilica do Sagrado Coração de Jesús. It was constructed under instructions of Queen Maria I, who had promised a church if she could give birth to an inheritor of the throne, in the neoclassic style, with some baroque elements. Nowadays, this is one of the most important religious places in this city.

On the top there is a viewpoint with a spectacular panorama of the whole area.

It is near the Assembly of the republic and of Campo de Ourique, which are places you definitely have to pass by.

Palácio dos Marqueses de Fronteira/ Palace of the Marquises of Fronteira

This emblematic palace lies in the middle of the Monsanto Forest, and it was the residence of the First Marques de Fronteira and his family. It was constructed in 1640. The palace is designed in the renaissance style with some baroque elements and is surrounded by a massive and magnificent garden. On the inside you can find the walls covered by tile, as well as on the exterior, inspired by the Arabs' art with all type of forms, styles and origins.

Cristo Rei/King Christ

Placed just after the 25 April Bridge, it is King Christ. It has 110m and has a 28m statue of Christ with its arms open. From up there the view is unique, and it is a spectacular experience to be so high from the ground and being able to see the whole city. It was inaugurated in 1959 and since then it has been really famous around Portuguese people, as it is the first thing you see when crossing the bridge or near the river.

Estádio da Luz/ Luz Stadium

Home to the Benfica team, this stadium is the perfect plan to the football lovers. You can not only watch a match, but also eat on the restaurant with a panoramic view of the whole stadium and see the museum with the history of this club. Many people consider this stadium the most important of Portugal, having capacity for more than 65.000 people.

It is near shopping center Colombo and the whole Benfica neighbourhood.

Campo Pequeno

Inaugurated in 1892, this place was supposed to be a Spanish bullring, but with time it was converted into a cultural space in which many events, galleries, markets, concerts and shows occurred. It is designed in the revivalist neo-Arabic style. There is a shopping center underneath it that has many stores and restaurants and even a cinema.

Elevador da Glória/ Gloria Elevator

It was inaugurated in 1885 and connects the Praça dos Restauradores to Bairro Alto. There are two carriages that cross in the middle of the path, that way there is always one elevator on the lower stop and another on the upper stop. The route takes 5min (around 260m) and during it, you can see the iconic graffities made on the walls. It is a short program, but it is worthy.
